Wood Turning

Do you like bird houses? well these are very cute and colorful to look at

but I don’t think they will work for the birds.  These miniature, hand turned

and hand crafted bird houses are made by Ron H. and he loves going into

detail with them and using unusual wood. These are available in the shop

to purchase.  They would look cute hanging on a Christmas tree or in a

window. If you would like one of these little bird houses just contact me.

Thank you

SPRING IN THE MOUNTAINS

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

There is nothing I like better than Spring in my Smoky Mountains of

East Tennessee.  It seems like this winter has been a long one here,

when really it has not, we generally have mild winters , but this year

I was begging God to please, please hurry up with Spring.  I love it

when  everything starts blooming, like the Dogwoods, Red-buds,

Daffodils,  and everything gets so green.  I thought you might like

these pictures of some flowers you find here in the mountains, and

the picture of the mountains is in Cades Cove. I hope I never forget

to take time to enjoy and value the beauty GOD has surrounded me

with. I am a very blessed hillbilly  girl here in the Smoky Mountains.

Come visit the mountains and if you are ever here take the time

to come through Wears Valley to Townsend and stop at

CAM Cabin Crafts at 1329 Wears Valley Rd. Townsend, TN.

I would love to meet you and chat awhile. One problem

I never have is jawing.

PAINT ON WHAT?

These two paintings are by local Smoky Mountain artist Maxine F.

Maxine will paint on pretty much anything, like the leaf or feather

she has painted on in these pictures.  Maxine also loves to paint

about things you would see in the mountains, so you will see cabins,

mountains, Smoky Mtn. Trout, Deer, Owls, and more.

Maxine’s paintings available for purchase contact me if interested

at 865 448 5940 or email me at thericabcam@aol.com

Woodworking

These hand turned wood vases are called “Twig Pots” by the crafter

that makes them.  Marion S. is from South Carolina, retired, and loves

working with wood of any kind, he loves to make this Twig Pot vases

and bowls of all shapes and sizes.  Marion says the enjoyment he

receives from his woodworking is never knowing exactly what the

wood is going to show you until you cut into it.  As the name imply’s

they are perfect to place a small dried flower twig into or just show

show them like they are, the beauty is in the wood.

The Twig Pots shown above are made from Pecan, Cherry, Walnut,

Spalted Beech, Red Oak, Maple,  and Purple Leaf Plum (not all are

shown in the pictures above).  They each stand about 5 – 6 inches

tall and are only $19.99 each.

If interested in purchasing any of Marion’s Twig Pots just email me at

thericabcam@aol.com or call 865 448 5940. The price above does not

include taxes and shipping.

MORE THAN JUST CRAFTS

When you say crafts most folks are going to think of things

like crochet baby booties, baskets, Christmas ornaments, etc.

We do have all that but we have much more, we have practical

items that have every day uses, we also have things that can

be used and pass down to others.  Like crochet wash clothes,

very durable to use, or scrubbies to use in your kitchen. Handmade

dolls that can be played with or collected.  So I thought I would

just show you some things in the shop that show you they are

more than just a nifty craft item.  They can be very useful.

If you want to get some of these items just contact me. I

will be happy to help.

WINTER WOES

This is what it looked like a couple of years ago here at the craft shop

and if it does what they say, it will look like this again this weekend.

Did I mention I DON’T LIKE SNOW, COLD WEATHER OR WINTER.

It’s funny but when I was a kid I LOVED the snow, my brother, sister

usually a cousin or two and friends would gang up and ride these

huge tractor tire inner-tubes that my dad would blow up for us.

We would pile two or three of us at a time on those and go sliding

down the hill into the field below.  And a “hill” in the Smoky

Mountains of East Tennessee is no small thing.  Speaking of

the cold I hate, back then we wouldn’t come in the house until

mom was on her third yell and threatening all kinds of dire

consequences, the worst being dad deflating the inner-tubes,

by then gloves and scarfs were cased over in ice and you couldn’t

feel your face, oh what fun that was!  Now  I don’t even want to step

outside once the cold sets in, I don’t want to wear coats, gloves and

scarf’s. I want to hibernate like the Bears through Winter,  and  I

want my flip flops back on!  My oh my what time does to you.

But having complained about all that I don’t believe anything is more

peaceful looking then the beautiful Smoky Mountains all covered in

bright, white Snow.  I do miss those inner-tubes, I might be tempted

to go down a “small” hill.

YO YO

Now I know all you quilters out there know what yo-yo’s are

and it’s not the toy.  These  yo-yo’s are made from pieces

of cloth, a lot of times from quilting scraps.  Then someone crafty

makes things from the yo-yo’s, like Ms. Roberta has.  In the

pictures you see she has made ornaments, table runners and

a Christmas tree.  Lest you think it is easy just ask someone

that sews yo-yo’s are not easy and it takes time to make lots

of them, but isn’t the end result so pretty. If interested in

any of Ms. Roberta’s yo-yo items just let me know.
